Eugene “Gene” R. Allen

Eugene AllenEugene “Gene” R. Allen, 76, of Bangor, WI died on Thursday September 18, 2014 at the Mayo Clinic Health System Franciscan Campus in La Crosse. He was born on December 15, 1937 in Eastman, WI to Ora and Margaret (Stluka) Allen.

Gene graduated from the Seneca High School in 1955 where he had been a star basketball player. He married Mavis Richardson on February 11, 1964, she preceded him in death in 1979. He married Dee Romskog on April 3, 1982 in Rockland, WI. Gene served 2 years in the US Army and then worked as a cheese maker retiring in 1999. Gene enjoyed a good game of cards, watching the Green Bay Packers, fishing, camping, his pipe with a brandy, and his family time. His heart was as big as his hands and feet!

Gene is survived by 2 children Gena (Brian Atkinson) Allen of Galesville, WI and Steve (Ann) Allen of Sparta, WI, 7 stepchildren Debbie (Jeff) Salek of Mindoro, WI, Kevin (Kim) Romskog of Pilot Point, TX, Cindy (Tim) Adamson of Mindoro, WI, Todd (Annie) Romskog of Holmen, WI, Mike (Pauline) Watters of Onalaska, WI, Joddie (Dave) Sampson of Bangor, WI, Todd (Vonnie) Allen of Rockland, WI;  19 grandchildren and  25 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters Gladys Monroe of Sussex, WI and Audrey Freymiller of Woodman, WI and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wives Mavis and Dee, his parents and a grandson Douglas Sampson.

Following cremation funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday September 24, 2014 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Bangor. Rev. Roy Hefti will officiate. A private burial will be in the Christ Lutheran Cemetery in West Salem, WI. Friends may call at the Church on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and again on Wednesday morning from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. In Lieu of flowers memorials are preferred.
