Elaine R. Fossum

IMG_1365.JPGElaine R. Fossum, 82, of Onalaska, died in her home on Wednesday, September 17, 2014. She was born on August 3, 1932 in La Crosse, WI to Alfred and Helen (Woehlke) Gilster. Elaine grew up on the family vegetable and dairy farm in Medary and attended Fauver Hill Elementary School. She was a graduate of Logan High School. She married Clifford A. Fossum, Jr. on September 23, 1950 in La Crosse. After her marriage Elaine wrote the exam to be a Wisconsin Funeral Director and she and her husband owned and
operated the Fossum Funeral Homes in Onalaska, Bangor and Ettrick. Her husband Cliff preceded her in death on May 1, 1989. Elaine continued to operate the funeral homes until her passing and was a member of the Wisconsin Funeral Directors Association.

Elaine is survived by her son Curt of Onalaska, 2 brothers: Kenny (DeLaney) Gilster of Onalaska, David (Barbara Kemp) of Holmen and a sister Margery (Dr. Dale) May of Salem, VA.; many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Phillip.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm on Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Onalaska. The Rev. Josh Bodden will officiate. Burial will follow in the Onalaska Cemetery. Friends may call at the Fossum Funeral Home on Monday from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and again at the church on Tuesday from noon until the time of the service.

    So sorry to hear of Elaine’s passing. Elaine and Cliff were good friends of my family, and Cliff and Elaine were both classmates of my dad (Unk Wilhelm) and Elaine with my mother (Phyllis) It seems to be the end of an interesting group of friends and companions.

    This lady was very Unique! She was there for many people in her life. My Dad Ralph Jones and her used to kid around at the coffee cup in Bangor and had a good time. My mother many time was apart of her services as she was a organist (Anita Jones) My Sympathy goes to all her family .
